Often, people wonder how fashion designers tap into their creativity. For Suzanne Wyman, designer of Yes World Boutique and Yes Lifestyle Organics, the process is quite unique. She uses yoga, meditation song and dance to develop her present moment consciousness.

It is from that opening that Suzanne reconnects with her creative energy.

This cultivation of the creative process goes deep as she taps into her soul to clear out blockages that may distract her from her true passion.

To bring in the new year, 2012, she went to the beautiful and peaceful Shanti Retreat

to spend 4 intensive days in meditation, yoga and kirtan singing/chanting with a small group of other devoted individuals. Wendy, co director of the retreat, started each morning with a heart opening yoga practice.

Cradled in the gentle teaching and guidance of Diane Yeo, the group was thoughtfully and carefully lead through meditation several times a day.

Diane comes from the heart and is passionate about connecting with people and exploring the infinite peace, love and silence within.

"Clearing my mind opens up so much space for creativity", says Suzanne.

Heart warming, joyeous, devotional chart artist, Brenda McMorrow created a musical journey that unveiled and celebrated our true beings through the power of sound. Singing in Sanskrit to specific chants, the group was supported in their foray into 2012.

Brenda will start her Eastern US and Canadian tour in April, 2012, then she's off to Europe in May/June.

An old Chinese proverb says "the best time to do something was yesterday, the second best time is today". Don't think that life has passed you by and that you've lost your chance to do what you love most. You have the power within to make the change and live your life the way you want.

Suzanne left a 22 year career in health care at the age of 45 after years of dreaming of becoming a major player in the Canadian fashion world swirled through her head. "It's those passionate thoughts that really fuel us in life. Sometimes, if we don't follow that passion, we can feel like the walking dead" she says.

"I'm now into my 3rd year of designing clothing and the response has been tremendous! It fills my heart with joy!

Living a green lifestyle has been an iterative process for Suzanne Wyman. Inspired by her vegetarian diet of many years, she began to research organics in both fabrics and foods in an effort to have a lighter footprint on the earth and do her part to reduce environmental destruction.

Cotton is one of the major culprits of herbacides pestcide and herbacide use in the world and has a terrible impact on local surface and groundwater in the regions where it is grown. Using GOTS certified organic cotton in her designs means that the cotton has been grown without the use of herbacides or pesticides.

Additionally, cotton grown with the use of herbacides and pesticides carrys through to you, the consumer who wears the chemical ridden garments. Dr. Brian Clement and Anne Clement of the Hippocrates Health Institute have recommended organic cotton in their recent book, Killer Clothes as the choice fabric for us to wear as it has the least harmful effect on us

Yes World Boutique at The Clothing Show Runway

Two weekends ago, Yes World Boutique was a vendor at the bi-annual Clothing Show held in The Queen Elizabeth Building at Exhibition Place in Downtown Toronto. The show, which is held for 3 days, allows for aspiring Canadian designers to come together, sell merchandise and showcase their collections. The show was a great experience for Yes World as we got the chance to participate in the fashion shows!

The Yes World Boutique booth displayed merchandise from the Yes Lifestyle Organics line, as well as the new Yes World Boutique Spring/Summer collection. The ‘Flowing Goddess’ dress was an absolute hit! After displaying the beautiful dress in the fashion show, many visited our booth to take a look and try it on.

The Wrap Dress With Soft Pleated Cuffs were another customer favourite. Many loved the knee length, flowy-sleeved garment for its versatility, as it could worn as both a formal and casual dress. After mentioning the fact that it was made from certified organic cotton, customers felt even better about their purchase.

However, not only were compliments received on the merchandise, customers were also pleasantly surprised at the level of customer service received from Yes World Boutique employees. Each customer was welcomed with a smile as they entered the booth, and then informed of what they could find. This may be the reason why we had a number of repeat customers! Many mentioned that they had visited the Yes World Boutique booth at other events, and wanted to come back and make another purchase.

Overall, the weekend was a great success for Yes World Boutique as we received a great response from customers! Remember that you can find Yes World Boutique at Harbourfront Centre in Downtown Toronto every weekend for the entire summer! Come by to see the new Spring/Summer collection!

To officially announce the launch onto the Sears website, Suzanne Wyman, designer of Yes World Boutique and Yes Lifestyle Organics in conjunction with Sears shot an in store video at the Sears Canada flagship store at the Toronto Eaton Centre. The making of this video is a product of the collaborative creativity of Sears and Yes World Boutique.

Fashion Takes Action is an organization focused on turning the fashion industry green! It originally started as the Green Gala fundraiser event held to create awareness by showcasing sustainable fashion. The event sparked great interest from designers coast to coast wanting to know how to turn their designs into sustainable fashion. In April 2009, Fashion Takes Action was launched as a member based organization that provides a number of services around sourcing sustainable fabric, capacity building, promotion, and discounts.

Founded by Kelly Drennan, Fashion Takes Action helps their members to recognize where they can make smarter decisions that will reduce their social and environmental impact. Nobody is perfect, but any change in the right direction is a good one! Fashion Takes Action hopes to build their membership and provide more events and webinars for both their members and consumers. Their ultimate goal is to get all fashion businesses to embrace sustainability in a way that is meaningful and profitable to them.

The expecting mother-to-be continues to leave her mark in the worlds of film and fashion. Her most recent movie Thor will be released in theaters this May. Let's not forget her just received Oscar for Best Actress in Black Swan.

Since age 8, Natalie Portman has been a strict vegetarian, staying true to her beliefs. “My dad's a doctor, and when I was 8, I went to one of his medical conferences where they were demonstrating laser surgery on a chicken. I was so mad that a chicken had to die, I never ate meat again.” She has recently adopted and committed to a vegan diet. Vegetarianism is one thing she has in common with designer Suzanne Wyman.

As a strong believer in animal rights and with her heavy influence on the fashion world, Natalie Portman has developed her own line of vegan shoes. Inspirational!

Green World Inspirations! Eco Fashion Week

Have you heard of Canada's Eco Fashion Week? Just a few weeks ago, Vancouver hosted the bi-annual Eco Fashion Week. From February 22nd to the 25th, eco-designers showcased their collections of environmentally friendly fashions. With the growth of designers going green in the fashion industry, Eco Fashion Week focuses solely on recycled and organically grown fashions, hoping to send a global message of change and inspiration.

New designers created textures with materials from their own backyards, by using hemp, and with natural pigments and dyes. Unsold clothing from thrift stores and other reused and recycled garments were turned into high fashion runway looks. Clothes were made from fibers of wood, bamboo, and even milk proteins. Sponsor AVEDA put glamorous green touches on the runway with their plant-based hair and makeup products.

Yes World Boutique supports the designers that have taken the steps towards making their clothing environmentally friendly. Together we work towards keeping not just our clothing beautiful, but our environment beautiful too.

She's All That: Building Community with City Mural Artwork!

Cristina Delago wears Yes World Boutique’s organic yoga wear to her yoga classes and at the studio where she creates her eye grabbing murals using mosaics of glass and porcelain tiles along with her incredibly distinctive handcrafted tiles!

The talented muralist was chosen by the City of Toronto and Mural Routes to capture the essence of Arnie Lipsey’s Almonds and Wine, the winning film at the Jewish Animated Film Festival!

Christina is passionate about installing mosaics in public spaces and working with communities to actualize it. She wants the public to see that mosaics add colour beauty to urban landscapes.

The mural was revealed this past Sunday, on August 15th to the Bathurst and Lawrence community in Toronto, Canada! The day was filled with fun, laughter and love! The details and colours of her mural adds character to the community! Cristina’s mosaic work has brought the film to life!

Eco Laundry Tips

Want to help reduce your carbon footprint? There are many small adjustments that you can make in your own household tasks to help preserve the planet for our future generations!

Instead of using your dryer, install a clothesline in your backyard or use a clothing rack. Make use of the wonderful summer sun other than for your summer tan! Also, we came across a recipe for homemade laundry detergent – try it out!

Ingredients:

2 gallons of hot water

1 bar soap (grated)

2 cups of baking soda

Preparation:

Step 1: Fill a saucepan up to the rim and boil water.
Step 2: Once water has boiled, change stove setting to medium-low and add grated soap bar. Stir until the soap has completely melted.
Step 3: Take a large bucket, pour 2 gallons of hot water and add the melted soap.
Step 4: Stir well and add the baking soda – continue stirring.

*** Use ½ a cup per full load of laundry ***

Beauty Secrets from India: Say Goodbye to Frizzy Hair!

Women have found many creative and cheap ways of maintaining their beauty all around the world. Hair is one of the most important physical features of any woman and frizz is a common problem cross-culturally among women.

India is known for having created countless home-made remedies with natural ingredients. A special Indian beauty secret uses coconut milk as a shampoo supplement to add a boost of shine to your straightened hair! Follow this recipe and say good bye to frizzy hair!

Ingredients required: Coconut milk, lavender, chamomile, burdock oil

Preparation before hair straightening:

Step 1: Allow coconut milk to sit, until a cream develops on top. Remove the cream layer with a spoon.

Step 2: Squeeze half a lime and add the juice to the coconut milk.
Step 3: Put 3 drops of chamomile, level and burdock oil to the mixture and allow it to cool in the fridge, until it turns into a gel.
Step 4: Massage the mixture into your hair and wrap your hair in a towel for an hour. Once the hour has passed, shampoo and rinse your hair.
Step 5: Now you can blow dry and straighten your hair, frizz-free! It is recommended you apply this coconut concoction two or three times a week for the best results!

Try it: All natural rice toner and cotton mask!

What youll need:

-Jasmine rice [make sure it is organic]
-2 cups pure water
-spice jar
-white paper towel

Step 1:

Fill Bowl With Rice

Step 2: Fill the bowl with water, just enough to sit an inch above the rice, and stir until water is cloudy

Step 3: Pour the water back into the measuring cup, and then pour the rice water into your container.

* Tip: now that you have your jar of rice water, it makes an excellent natural toner.

Step 4: Cut your paper towel into a circle, cut out holes for your eyes, and a rectangle for your mouth.

Step 5: Soak the mask in the rice water and place it on your freshly cleansed face for 15 minutes. then peel the mask off for a refreshed face!
